Management of Aethina tumida (Murray) with Beauveria bassiana (Bals) and Metarhizium anisopliae (L.) In vivo assay

Abstract



The work was carried out at Laboratory III, Agricultural Sciences Faculty, University of Sancti Spíritus. Its aim was to determine the effect of four doses of strains LBb-111 and LBb-1234 of Beauveria bassiana Bals. and Ma-34 of Metarhyzum anisopliae L. on the mortality of Aethina tumida larvae and adults collected in infected beehives. A mixture of 375 g of soil + 100 g of washed sand + four doses of entomopathogens was used for the experiment. Then, 500 g of the mixture were placed in boxes (6.2 cm high x 15.5 cm diameter). Ten larvae/boxes/dose were placed in a first assay and 10 adults/boxes/dose in others, with seven replicates per treatment, respectively. Mortality percentages were determined every 24 hours and a factorial analysis was carried out with an interaction between the doses and the strains used. As a result, Strain LBb-111 of B. bassiana and Ma-34 of M. anisopliae reached the highest percentage of adult mortality with 40g and 60g, with values higher than 50 % in 96 hours. The highest percentage of larval mortality was reached with the 60g dose with strain LBb-111 of B. bassiana in 96 hours.
