Abstract

In order to evaluate four sampling techniques for Diaphorina citri Kuwayama, the vector of the bacteria causing HLB, weekly samples were taken during six months between September 2019 and February 2020, in three citrus farms located in the north and center of Tolima, Colombia. The number of individuals (eggs, nymphs and adults) of the insect present in Tahitian lime trees (Citrus latifolia Tanaka) was counted. Bi-weekly, fresh buds of trees were also taken from the plots corresponding to each treatment. The number of adults and the total value of individuals per sample were correlated with the total number of adults and individuals per bud, aiming at determining which of the sampling techniques was more adjusted to the population present in the trees. Visual technique was the most appropriate for sampling D. citri, taking into account its accuracy, cost and ease of use. However, considering the epidemiological situation due to the absence of HLB reports in Tolima, it is necessary to support the visual monitoring of the vector with the yellow sticky trap, mainly during the absence of fresh buds.
