Abstract

Samples of leaves and stems were periodically taken from randomly selected mango (Mangifera indica L.) and avocado (Persea americana Mill) trees in Habana and Mayabeque, Cuba, from February 2018 to March 2019. Pink-to-reddish-colored waxy scale insects were observed and described morphologically under a stereomicroscope. Subsequently, they were removed with the help of an entomological needle and placed in xylene + ethanol solution, to remove the waxy layer, and then subjected to 10% KOH for maceration, clearance and slide mounting in Berlesse medium. For their identification, the morphological descriptions of the species and the known taxonomic keys for the gender were used, and the presence of Ceroplastes rubens, Maskell, 1839, was a new record of Coccidae for Cuba.
