Abstract

The experiment was aimed at determining the effect of 50 mmol.L-1 of NaCl on the interaction between the strain IMI SD 187 of Pochonia chlamydosporia var. catenulata Kamyschko ex Barron y Onions) Zare and Gams and Meloidogyne incognita (Kofoid y White) in tomato plant. For it, a completely randomized design with seven treatments and one control and with five replicas was set up at the National Center for Plant and Animal Health (CENSA, Cuba).  The treatments consisted of the separated action of the fungus and the nematode and their interaction in tomato in the presence of NaCl. After 65 days, gall index, number of M. incognita second stage juveniles in the soil, and the saprophytic and parasitic activity of the strain IMI SD 187 were evaluated, and the potentiometric pH and soil electrical conductivity were recorded. One-way ANOVA was used and the treatment means were compared with Tukey test (p≤0.05), processed with STATISTICA v. 8 software. The results showed that the strain IMI SD 187 colonized the root in a range of 1.9-4.2x103 CFU, reached a population record in the soil of 1.5-3.3x104 CFU, parasitized 63% of the nematode eggs, and colonized 80%  of the egg masses in the presence of NaCl.

Key words: biological control, nematophagous fungus, salinity, tomato.
