Abstract

This research is aimed at determining the polarity, amplitude, duration, and vectorial position of each graph element of the electrocardiogram in equine stallions. It was carried out in the farm “Rancho Domingo García Frías” located in the southern part of Habana and Mayabeque provinces. The information regarding the nine animals researched was obtained from their respective medical histories, and the health conditions were evaluated before carrying out the electrocardiographic records. The three monopolar leads used were distributed themselves in different angles in relation to the position of the heart.  The exploring electrodes used were those corresponding to V1c, V5c and V6. The duration values obtained for the segments PQ, ST and TP were 0.16, 0.23 and 0.73 s and intervals PQ, ST, QT and TQ, of 0.21, 0.23, 0.24 and 0.20 s, respectively. The space position calculation of the integral electric vector (IEV) of the cardiac ventricular  activity  showed  that  the  values  of  the  angles  reached in the equine by the wave R oscillated in αx= 960 ± 4.70, αy= 560 ± 9.60 and αz= 380 ± 70, having their position in the second upper left  quadrant in the cephalic direction. The possible variations in the results are due to the fact that when the test was performed, the stallions were not treated with any sedative; therefore they presented anxiety and stress stages, typical of the manipulation.

Key words: monopolar derivations, exploring electrodes, electrocardiogram.
