Potencialidades de grupos de nematodos para el manejo de plagas del orden Thysanoptera. I: Parásitos

Resumen

El objetivo de esta revisión, dividida en dos partes, fue resumir las principales investigaciones desarrolladas en torno a las relaciones trips-nematodos; esta primera parte está dedicada a los estudios realizados en nematodos parásitos obligados de especies de trips. Las especies de nematodos Thripinema aptini Sharga, Thripinema reniraoi Siddiqi, Thripinema nicklewoodii Siddiqi, Thripinema fuscum Tipping et al. y Tripinema khrustalevi Chizhov et al., se encontraron parasitando a diversas especies de Thysanoptera. Los nematodos disminuyen la alimentación de los insectos hospederos, su capacidad de producir progenie, modificando el sistema reproductor del hospedero y, en ciertas especies de trips, reduce la capacidad de transmisión de virus como TSVW. Estos nematodos, con ciclos de vida muy cortos, cuya extensión varía en función de las temperaturas, produjeron diferentes porcentajes de parasitismo natural en campos de, al menos, siete países. Se evaluaron métodos de reproducción in vivo de especies de Thripinema y se desarrollaron estudios de bioecología de diversas especies. Se destacó, por parte de diversos investigadores, la posibilidad de utilizar estos organismos en programas de manejo integrado de trips, así como la necesidad de incrementar los estudios de sistema trips-nematodos, pues aún resultan insuficientes las investigaciones cuyos resultados permitan el uso de Thripinema spp., a través de liberaciones inoculativas.
